Telling your parents that you intend to or would like to have pap smear is entirely up to you. You are not required by law to tell your parents that you want or have had a pap smear, even if you are under 16.
If you do decide to tell your parents, and they are not aware that you are sexually active, this may come as a bit of a suprise to them. This could especially be the case if you are under the age of consent, (if by law, you are too young to have sex). If you do decide to tell your parents and they get a bit spun out about it, remind them that you are doing the right thing by having a pap smear. In other words, you are taking responsibility for choosing to become sexually active. If you are having safe sex, (an absolute must these days) then even better - reassure your parents with this information.
If you are under the age of consent, (17 yrs in aTasmania) DON'T WORRY, you cannot be arrested or charged by the police for having sex.
ALWAYS REMEMBER, it is entirely up to you to tell your parents or to keep this information to yourself. You have a right to confidentiality and privacy. If you beleive that your having a pap smear is none of your parents business, then it simply isn't and they don't have a right to know. You are not decieving your parents by not telling them, you are simply guarding your own rights to privacy.
