WHAT IS A PAP SMEAR?




- A Pap Smear is a simple examination of the pelvis
and involves taking a sample of the cells which are shed from the
cervix.
- Pap
smears are performed by Doctors, Nurses and other health
careprofessionals.
- Cells
from the cervix are collected so that they can be examined for any
changes - changes in cells can indicate the possibility of their
developing cancer.
- Left
untreated, abnormal cells can develop into life threatening
cancer.
- Why is
it important to have a pap smear??? Because early detection of
cervical cancer can save your life.
