WHAT IS A PAP SMEAR?

•   A Pap Smear is a simple examination of the pelvis and involves taking a sample of the cells which are shed from the cervix.

 

• Pap smears are performed by Doctors, Nurses and other health careprofessionals.

 

• Cells from the cervix are collected so that they can be examined for any changes - changes in cells can indicate the possibility of their developing cancer.

 

• Left untreated, abnormal cells can develop into life threatening cancer.

 

• Why is it important to have a pap smear??? Because early detection of cervical cancer can save your life.
